Sandra Backlund

Although you might have heard of her around the blogosphere, I have wanted to write about Sandra Backlund's work for awhile now.

She creates knit sculptures, as I like to call them. These are not your granny's afternoon porch-knit scratchy sweaters!

They are almost organic, in the way that they seem to grow out from one's body and envelop them. Possibly the Gareth Pugh of knitwear but with beautiful materials (Gareth's choice of fabrics is not the best, to put it mildly)

Body, Skin and Hair

I inquired about prices for a few pieces and they are all in the 1000-1700 euro range. She does not have any stockists, all of her work is done by request. Considering the incredible intricacy of the garments (and the fact that everything is custom made to your measurements!), I think that the prices are not that insane.

That doesn't mean I'll be getting something made anytime soon, though! (sadface)
